Booking by Phone

How do I book a train ticket with Skyward Bookings?
Call our reservations desk. Tell the agent where you are going, roughly when, and how many people are travelling. The agent searches live availability across every operator that serves your route, explains the realistic options, and — if you are happy — confirms the reservation and emails your documents before you hang up. Most calls take under five minutes.
Is there a fee for calling?
The call itself is free from anywhere in the United States. Skyward Bookings charges a per-passenger service fee for booking, ticketing and post-booking support. The fee is quoted verbally before any payment is taken and appears itemised on your confirmation email. If you do not want to pay it, you are free to end the call at no cost.
Why book by phone instead of online?
Because rail pricing is genuinely complicated. Split ticketing, sleeper-car buckets, multi-operator routings, senior and military discounts, pass validity, connection minimums and Thruway bus links all interact. Search engines show you one answer. A trained agent tests a dozen and tells you which is actually cheaper — and which will actually work on the day.
What information should I have ready before I call?
Your origin and destination cities, your preferred travel dates (and whether you have flexibility), the number of passengers with ages, and whether you want coach, business or a private room. Have a payment card handy if you intend to confirm on the call. That is all.
Can you help if my trip is tomorrow?
Yes. Same-day and next-day bookings are among the most common calls we take. Because we work directly with live inventory, we can often find seats that appear sold out on public search, and we can usually confirm within minutes.

Fares, Payments & Changes

Are your prices lower than booking direct?
Sometimes materially lower, sometimes the same. Our advantage is not a secret discount on every seat — it is knowing which fare construction is cheapest for your specific journey. On long-distance and multi-leg trips that difference is frequently worth hundreds of dollars. On a simple short hop it may be nothing, and we will tell you that honestly.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards — Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. Payments are processed through a PCI-DSS compliant gateway. We never store your full card number, and our agents cannot see it after the transaction completes.
Can I change or cancel after booking?
That depends entirely on the fare rules of the ticket you purchased, which the agent explains before you pay. Flexible and refundable fares can generally be changed. Saver and Advance fares are usually non-refundable, though credit may be available. Our own service fee is separately governed by our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
Do you charge more than the rail operator for the same seat?
The rail fare itself is the operator's fare — we do not mark it up. What you pay in addition is our transparent service fee for handling the reservation, and it is disclosed before payment every single time.
What happens if my train is cancelled or delayed?
Call us. We will rebook you on the next viable service, pursue any compensation the operator owes you, and — where the operator's policy allows — arrange accommodation. This is the part of the service that people who booked through a search engine wish they had.

Onboard & Travel

What is the difference between a Roomette and a Bedroom?
A Roomette sleeps two in facing seats that convert to upper and lower berths, with a door and a window but shared corridor bathrooms and showers. A Bedroom is roughly twice the size, sleeps two more comfortably, and includes a private in-room toilet and shower. On Amtrak long-distance routes both include all meals in the dining car.
How much luggage can I bring?
On Amtrak, two personal items plus two carry-on bags up to 50 lbs each are free, and checked baggage is available at staffed stations on many routes. UK operators generally allow three items per passenger with no weight check. There are no liquid restrictions and no security screening on domestic services.
Is there Wi-Fi and power at the seat?
Power outlets are standard on virtually all intercity trains in both countries. Wi-Fi is available on the Northeast Corridor, most state-supported corridors and every UK intercity operator. On western US long-distance routes coverage is patchy by design — much of the route has no cell signal at all.
Are meals included?
On Amtrak long-distance routes, all meals are included in sleeping-car fares. Coach passengers can buy from the café car. On UK intercity services, LNER, Avanti and GWR include a meal in First Class on most departures. We confirm exactly what is included before you book.
Can I take my bicycle or pet?
Bicycles are carried on most corridor trains, sometimes requiring a small reservation fee, and walk-on bike service exists on many routes with no boxing required. Small cats and dogs under 20 lbs are permitted on most Amtrak routes up to seven hours for a fee, with advance reservation required — space is strictly capped per train.

Accessibility & Special Needs

Do you book accessible travel?
Yes, and it is one of the strongest reasons to use a phone agent. Accessible bedrooms, wheelchair spaces, transfer assistance, station meet-and-assist and service animal declarations all require coordination that online booking engines handle badly or not at all.
How far in advance should I request assistance?
Amtrak asks for at least 24 hours notice; UK operators formally ask for 2 hours but we recommend booking assistance at the same time as the ticket. We arrange it during the same call.
Are there discounts for seniors, students or military?
Yes. Amtrak offers discounts for passengers 65 and over, students, active-duty military and veterans, and children. UK operators offer Railcards that pay for themselves within one or two journeys. Our agents apply every discount you qualify for automatically — you do not need to know they exist.
