The fundamental advantage
Children can walk around. That is the whole thing. On a plane, a restless four-year-old is a crisis. On a train, they walk to the lounge car, look out the window, come back, eat something, and everyone survives.
No seatbelt sign, no security line, no gate-checking a stroller, and two free bags each.
Book the Family Room
On Superliner routes the Family Room spans the full width of the lower level, sleeps two adults and two children, and has its own windows on both sides. It is almost always the best value in the car once you count four meals a day per person included.
What to bring
- Downloaded content — signal is unreliable and absent in the west
- A blanket each; cars run cold at night
- Snacks beyond the café car, which closes overnight
- A small nightlight for the room
- Something to do at the table: cards, magnets, colouring
Practical notes
Children 2–12 travel at a reduced fare, and one infant under two travels free on the lap of each adult. Strollers are fine and do not need to be folded for boarding. Changing tables exist on the lower level of Superliner cars.
